Our Chairman, His Excellency Sidique Abou-Bakarr Wai, brings over three decades of distinguished leadership in international diplomacy, public policy, and cross-cultural relations. A charismatic yet humble statesman, Ambassador Wai has dedicated his career to championing the interests of emerging markets and forging transformative partnerships across continents.
Ambassador Wai served with distinction as Sierra Leone's Ambassador to the United States and High Commissioner to Canada, where he was unanimously approved by Parliament and praised across political lines for his exceptional credentials and selfless service. His diplomatic excellence also extended to his role as Secretary General of the Ambassadors Group of ECOWAS, where he was widely regarded as the most effective leader in the organization's history.
Before his ambassadorial appointment, Ambassador Wai spent more than 30 years in New York as President of the United African Congress, representing 3.5 million continental African immigrants, and as a community affairs analyst and advocate for community public safety. During this time, he pioneered groundbreaking initiatives—including the NYPD Body Camera Program—facilitated the first high-level meeting between the NYPD and African UN Ambassadors, and made historic contributions during Sierra Leone's civil war and the Ebola crisis.
